Programs and Services for Seniors: Quickly Find the Help you Need
First, it’s important to start by evaluating what your primary needs are: health, home support, housing, finances, etc.
Knowing what exists is the key to orienting yourself towards the right resources:
Health and Social Services
These services will allow you to evaluate your needs regarding autonomy, safety, and support and then direct you towards the right resources: home care, follow-up, support for caregivers, or specialized services depending on the situation.
Home Support
Whether for housekeeping, meal preparation, shopping, accompaniment, or even specific assistance, there are plenty of services available. You will certainly find solutions that allow you to stay in your home longer in complete safety.
Housing
There are several options for staying at home, adapting your residence, equipping yourself with fall-prevention systems, or reducing costs through financial aid, tax credits, or programs linked to rent and taxes. The goal is to make your environment more stable and better adapted.
Transport
Depending on your region, adapted solutions exist to make your life easier, such as services to facilitate travel to medical appointments.
Justice
Resources are available to inform you of your rights as a senior, prevent abuse, and offer support in case of conflict or discrimination.
Taxes and Pensions
Provincial and federal measures include tax credits, subsidies, and pensions that help alleviate expenses related to housing and the cost of living.
Employment
If you wish to remain active, there are resources to help with employment, information on income, and support depending on your situation. Whether for part-time work or a gradual return, the objective is to support your professional projects.
Financial Assistance for Seniors: Quebec Grants and Tax Credits
Health Coverage Programs (RAMQ)
Did you know that you are automatically enrolled in the RAMQ public prescription drug insurance plan on your 65th birthday, without having to take any steps? However, if you already benefit from private coverage, you will need to choose between the two.
You will also have access to certain optometric services, such as eye exams, and free flu vaccinations.
Financial Contribution Exemption Program for Domestic Help (RAMQ)
If you are a RAMQ beneficiary and find yourself in a situation where your autonomy is reduced, or if you are returning home after hospitalization, you may be eligible for the Financial Contribution Exemption Program. This program covers home support services such as housekeeping, meal preparation, grocery shopping, laundry, and ironing.
Meal Assistance
Seniors, convalescents, or those losing their independence can also benefit from affordable home meal delivery services thanks to local Popote roulante programs!
Housing Programs and Assistance
Quebec is committed to supporting its seniors regarding housing.
The Shelter Allowance Program from Revenu Québec is an ideal solution for low-income households where rent represents too large a portion of their budget. Based on various criteria, including being over 50 years of age, this financial aid could be the key to lightening the burden of rent and improving quality of life.
Are you or will you be living in a public facility and are covered by RAMQ? You might be eligible for a financial contribution for adults in residential care, depending on certain criteria.
According to the rules of the TAL (Tribunal administratif du logement), you may have the right to terminate your lease in specific situations. These include admission to a CHSLD, an intermediate resource, or a private seniors’ residence, as well as circumstances where a disability prevents you from occupying your home These cases are well-regulated, and those concerned are supported in finding a solution adapted to their situation.
In case of discrimination related to your age or social condition—such as a refusal to rent—you are not alone! You can file a complaint with the Commission des droits de la personne et des droits de la jeunesse.
Residential Adaptation Program (PAD – SHQ)
The Programme d’adaptation de domicile exists to make your home more accessible. It’s intended for people whose daily activities are limited and who require certain home adaptations to maintain their independence
Senior Assistance Grant for Municipal Tax Increases
Did you know there is also protection for homeowners? To compensate for a municipal tax increase, Revenu Québec offers a grant for seniors aged 65 and over.

Revenu Québec and the Canada Revenue Agency offer income tax assistance provided by volunteers. This free support is intended for seniors with modest incomes and simple tax situations
Tax Credit for Home-Support Services
